Sew Reporter Weekly | April Week 3 Edition 7


So what's been happening this week in the world of sewing? I know how busy I get trying to fit everything in each week and I use my time at the weekend to catch up on what's been happening all-things-sewing-wise. This got me thinking that a quick summary of what's going on would be really useful to read with your brunch over the weekend. Save all that searching and scrolling through blog posts, cherry pick what you want to read in the time you have!


What have the bloggers been posting?


At the Coletterie, pattern of the month is the Peony dress with 20% off. Marie at A Stitching Odyssey makes a self-drafted Scuba Skater Dress.

Amy at Almond Rock posts about textile printing at Leeds Art College. Rachel at House of Pinheiro talks about using the wrong side of fabrics and sewing with snaps.

Over at Did You Make That? it's sewing difficult patterns, making a toile and using a Frixion penHeather at Closet Case Files posts about What's Doing vol. 40, Ginger Jeans is now available in French, makes a plaid Archer shirt and Waxed Ginger Jeans and reviews Sewing For Fashion Designers.

At Jennifer Lauren Vintage it's the Felicity dress sew along with posts on How to Remove Yoke Pockets and Grading at the tips with Yoke PocketsJane at Handmade Jane makes a Lady Skater, Japanese style and discusses making Jeans and Bras.

Tilly at Tilly and the Buttons posts about the Arielle pattern and fabric shopping for the skirt. Over at Sewaholic it's a dotted Davie dress. At the Grainline Studio it's an update. Dixie DIY puts a call out for pattern testers and makes the Myla Tank by Sew Liberated.

At The Sewing Directory, Fiona posts projects on making a garden kneeler, customising tutorial, no pattern skirt project and how to identify fabrics using the burn test, plus the second in a three part series on Free Motion Quilting. Fiona has also written a post for Sew Mama Sew on working for free.


At my home Sew Over It new fabrics are in stock.

Alice at Backstitch posts her Spring/Summer class schedule and sews a Negroni shirt for her husband.

Annie at The Village Haberdashery is having a Yarn sale, posts customer makes, How to get news from The Village Haberdashery and Kona matches for Street Life by Jessica Hogarth and now stocks Paradiso by Kate Spain plus a chunky cable Headband Tutorial.

Fabric Godmother now stocks Swiss Dot cottons and Tilly's Arielle skirt with fabric suggestions. 

Guthrie and Ghani have some new silk and denim fabric arrivals.

It's time to sign up to Me-Made-May'15 #mmmay'15.

Exciting dressmaking competition at Simplicity. They are searching for a Star Sewist, with three categories being judged including beginners, vintage and best dress. If you email them your details they will send you a pattern of your choice. Submissions by 31st May. Lauren from Guthrie and Ghani is one of the judges!

British Quilt & Stitch Village opens later this month 24th - 26th April at Uttoxeter Racecourse in Staffordshire.

A month left to see Thea Porter 70s Bohemian chic at the Fashion and Textile Museum (running until 3rd May).

Fashion on the Ration continues at the Imperial War Museum, 5th March - 31st August.

Alexandra McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition continues at the V&A Museum, 14th March - 2nd August.
