Painting embroidery hoops to brighten up framed cross stitch designs

Today I have been painting embroidery hoops to frame a selection of retro cross stitch designs. I will be bringing these along to the beginners cross stitch class i'm teaching this Friday on the 21st February for Friday Fun at Sew Over It, Clapham, London.

This is a great way to make your cross stitch designs more eye catching and colourful.

A cost effective way of using several different colours is to buy tester pots of paint, which are usually only a few pounds.

You only need to paint the outside of the frame as the inside is hidden.

Now all you have to decide is which colours. I used four colours from Little Greene: 1970s retro Atomic red for the stag, Kitchen green for the beetle, retro Yellow-pink for the hedgehog and Brighton for the hummingbird.
